Model Programme for Public Libraries

Good Access

Good accessibility at the library is a prerequisite for people with functional disabilities to be able to move about on a par with others. To the libraries, accessibility is about creating logical interior design and layout solutions that benefit not only people with disabilities, but a large part of the population.

The Model Programme has chosen not to develop by itself advice and guidance on how libraries can design and lay out their spaces in a way that ensures the best possible access conditions and accessibility for users with different forms of functional disabilities. This is because God Adgang (Good Access – The Accessibility Label Scheme), which was created by VisitDenmark, Horesta (Danish trade association for the hotel, restaurant and tourism industry) and the Disabled People's Organisations Denmark have worked over the last 10 years to secure good access conditions for the more than 15 per cent of the Danes who are affected by functional disabilities. Among other things, God Adgang has prepared a comprehensive overview with guidelines of measures that can contribute to creating good access to and increasing accessibility for people with a number of different functional disabilities.
